Sertraline

The drug free experiment didn’t work. I’m back on the antidepressants, taking sertraline. It’s unlikely to work wonderfully, as it didn’t do a whole lot last time, but it has very few side effects (for me at least) and it should hopefully support me until after my exams in 4 weeks time. At that point we’ll see how I’m doing, and there are a number of possible options, including a completely new antidepressant, or lithium augmentation. For the moment I’m getting slight headaches, and feeling sick, but that should subside over the next week or so.

Have you ever tried cognitive therapy? Obviously not a good stopgap solution like drugs before exams, but it can be very powerful. Email me if you want to chat about it sometime.

Yeah, I’ve had one on one CBT for 3 months, and two group CBT courses. But thanks for the offer.

    Hey Jo,

just reading about this and looking at the medications you have tried and it’s a shame about your allergy to the agent in Escitalopram as I have found this to be of significant benefit to myself over the past year or so. I’m still dependant, to be fair, but much better than I was a while back. Also… I went to Imperial too!!! Many years ago, to be fair, but it’s a fantastic place to be studying. I used to love walking around the area (sadly during lecture time *ahem!*), checking out the museums and such. Are they still doing the mad mascotry stuff there? I remember one time we went to Royal Holloway and bedford college and stole their mascot, an 8′ stuffed brown bear, which we subsequently ransomed for 50 pints of blood to charity!! Happier days!!

    Jup.
